Just as some are savoring the final weeks of summer vacation, Fairfield University is preparing to welcome its Class of 2029—the most selective cohort in the Jesuit Catholic University’s 83-year history.
With an admit rate of just 25 percent, the incoming class reflects an increasingly competitive admission landscape and underscores Fairfield’s steady climb in academic prestige.
Contributing to Fairfield’s rise is, in part, its growing national recognition. Rankings in U.S. News & World Report, Poets & Quants, College Factual, and—just this month—LinkedIn highlight the strength of its programs, the long-term value of its degrees, and its commitment to strategic investments in student success.
Excellence extends beyond the classroom: with nearly 10 percent of the undergraduate student population participating in Division 1 sports and this year’s second consecutive MAAC Commissioner’s Cup Award, Fairfield Stags Athletics continues to nurture the Jesuit value of cura personalis—Latin meaning “care for the whole person”—supporting each student’s ability to reach their full intellectual and personal potential.
On August 29, Fairfield’s newest Stags will move in from 29 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and 13 countries, bringing broad perspectives to campus. Common threads in the makeup of this exceptional class include high academic achievement, leadership, social responsibility, and service to others.
Notably, 17 percent of the newest Stags have a legacy connection—a grandparent, parent, or sibling who has graduated from or is currently enrolled at Fairfield. This legacy is testament to generations of families placing deep trust in the value of a Fairfield education.
“Fairfield University is increasingly the first choice for top-performing students,” said Vice President for Enrollment Management Corry Unis. “We embrace this responsibility and remain committed to our Jesuit mission of fostering interdisciplinary learning, creativity, curiosity, and meaningful connections.”
Together, the incoming class represents more than just high GPAs and test scores. These students affirm Fairfield’s position as a nationally recognized University where the balance of academic rigor, personal development, and service to the community prepares young adults to lead lives of purpose.
