Fairfield’s low-residency MFA in Creative Writing gives students the flexibility to write from home while working one-on-one with faculty mentors each month. Twice a year in January and July, the community comes together for 10-day residencies on beautiful Enders Island in Mystic, Connecticut—an immersive experience filled with workshops, craft talks, and plenty of time to write. With 360-degree views of Fisher's Sound to inspire you, fellow students and faculty talk about and practice the basics and subtleties of writing and craft.
Residencies bring together faculty, guest writers, editors, and agents, creating a supportive community where lasting connections and creative collaborations take shape.
July 18 - 26, 2025.
In-person, Enders Island.
Students are strongly encouraged to stay with faculty and fellow students on Enders Island in order to feel a part of the writer's community and to partake of the inspiration provided by the spectacular views of the water. But for those who prefer more private accommodations, there are numerous hotels and bed and breakfast establishments within a few minutes' drive of the island. For those staying on the island, sit-down meals are provided for in one of three elegant dining rooms, all with views of the Sound.
During the residency, student workshop their writing with renowned faculty and with their peers.
Residencies are hosted in the winter and summer where students participate in workshops and craft talks.
