Dear Fairfield University degree candidates:

Fr von Arx 2013On Sunday, May 18, 2014, Fairfield University will hold its Commencement exercises. The ceremony for undergraduates will be at 9:30 a.m. and the graduate ceremony at 3 p.m. - both ceremonies will be held on Bellarmine Lawn. For the University, this marks a milestone in that it will be the institution's 64th commencement. More importantly, for all of you, this is a moment to acknowledge years of hard work and sacrifice along with what has, hopefully, been a time of transformation.

This Commencement is an important ending and an exciting new beginning. Speaking on behalf of our Board of Trustees, faculty and staff, I hope that your educational experience at Fairfield has led you to know yourself better and that you have developed a passion for lifelong learning. For it is only through that passion that you will continue to learn, question and analyze - all hallmarks of an individual who is especially equipped to contribute to the social and economic well-being of their communities and the world.

In addition to our Commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 18, I invite you to join our community for the Baccalaureate Mass that will be held in Alumni Hall at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 17. Prior to Commencement weekend, look forward to a number of celebratory activities during Senior Week for our undergraduate students as well as special school-based events for both undergraduates and graduates that will offer opportunities to further engage with faculty and classmates prior to the next phase of your Fairfield experience when you become alumni of this special and distinctive institution.

As we move towards the middle of this academic year, I, as President, want to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your successful accomplishments. All of us at Fairfield University look forward to celebrating with you this wonderful occasion.

Sincerely,

sal_von_arx_sig

Commencement Parking

To make the process of parking on campus the day of Commencement as delay-free as possible, following are important guidelines for you and your guests:

Arrive Early!
The heaviest volume of traffic arrives in the half hour prior to the start of Commencement. Please instruct your guests to arrive before 9 a.m.

  • Vehicles traveling northbound on I-95 should use the Round Hill Road Exit #22 and enter campus through the northwest (Jogues Hall) gate.
  • Vehicles traveling southbound on I-95 should use the North Benson Road Exit #22 and enter campus through the south (Barlow Road) gate.
  • Vehicles traveling from either direction on the Merritt Parkway should take Exit #44 and enter campus through the main or Prep (North Benson Road) entrance.

Follow Officers' Directions
To direct the flow of traffic, certain roads on campus will be closed before the ceremony. University Public Safety and Fairfield Police officers will be directing all vehicles to parking areas. Your patience and cooperation will be greatly appreciated.

Important: Roadways must remain accessible for emergency vehicles. Vehicles found parked in fire lanes, or blocking any campus gates or roadways, will be subject to being towed at the owner's expense.

Shuttle Buses Available
Shuttle buses will be available for rides from all parking areas to a drop-off near the Commencement location. Shuttles will also provide rides back to the lots after the ceremony.

Inclement Weather Plans
Come prepared for inclement weather as every attempt will be made to hold the ceremony outdoors. In the event of severe weather, Commencement will be held at Alumni Hall. Information concerning a change will be posted on the website on Sunday morning, May 18.

The Department of Public Safety congratulates you on your accomplishment. We will do everything possible to make Commencement weekend a wonderful and memorable occasion.
