Living his Dream: Wallace Signs With The Pirates

Sometimes to chase your dreams you have to make tough choices. Mike Wallace came to those crossroads when he had to make one of the most important decisions in the 21 years of his life. The First Team All-MAAC pitcher has decided to follow his dream and start his road in the minor leagues. Wallace has agreed to terms with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization and will forego his senior season, signing the contract he earned after being selected in the 30th round of the MLB draft this year.

“It was one of the most important decisions of my life,” Wallace said. “Leaving one of the greatest universities in the country and one that treated me extremely well is going to be tough. I have created the best friendships of my life here and I’ll never forget my time at Fairfield.”

Go Set A Watchman Read-a-thon

Celebrate the new Harper Lee novel, Go Set a Watchman, with an all-day read-a-thon marking the book's release date. Tuesday, July 14 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Fairfield University Bookstore (1499 Post Rd in downtown Fairfield).

Originally written in the mid-1950s, this was the novel Harper Lee first submitted to her publishers before To Kill a Mockingbird. Assumed to have been lost, the manuscript was discovered in late 2014.

Go Set A Watchman features many of the characters from To Kill a Mockinbird some twenty years later. Returning home to Maycomb to visit her father, Jean Louise Finch (Scout) struggles with issues both personal and political, involving Atticus, society, and the small Alabama town that shaped her.

The entire community, including librarians, college professors, teachers, students, actors and book lovers of every stripe, will participate in this public, read-aloud event. Join us for the grand unveiling! To sign up for a 20 minute reading slot, please RSVP to FairfieldUBookstoreEvents@gmail.com. Please state your availability and contact information.
