How to Waive Insurance
- Visit www.gallagherstudent.com/Fairfield and log in with your NetID and password.
- Click on the “Waiver” button in the plan summary box under the blue heading, 2025-2026 University Student Health Insurance Plan.
- Follow the instructions to complete the form. Have your current insurance ID card available, as you will need its information to complete the form.
- Immediately upon submitting your online form, you will receive a reference number to verify receipt.
- Please save this reference number. Submission of a waiver form does not mean your waiver has been approved. Please monitor your school email address, for an email from Gallagher with your waiver determination. If you do not receive an email, please call Gallagher Student Health 800-397-2874.
To qualify for the waiver, the student's health insurance policy must meet or exceed the coverage provided by the University-sponsored plan.
The policy must also be written and filed in the United States.
All full-time undergraduate, graduate, and second-degree nursing students are required to maintain health insurance. If the student already has insurance and does not need the University-sponsored health insurance policy, a waiver must be completed.
Please contact healthinsurance@fairfield.edu to enroll in the student health insurance plan outside of the open period or with any questions.
The waiver for the 2025-26 academic year will be available in mid-June. The deadline to waive is Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
Information by Student Type
Fairfield University requires that all undergraduate and graduate international students, part-time or full-time, maintain the University sponsored health insurance policy through Cultural Insurance Services International. However, if the student has access to comparable or better health insurance through other means (e.g. parents' coverage), and does not wish to be enrolled in the University-sponsored plan, the student must complete an online waiver to provide proof of coverage.
Students completing the waiver to decline the University-sponsored plan will receive full credit on their tuition bill.

Under Fairfield University's “hard waiver” program, students who already have insurance and who do not want the University-sponsored insurance plan must complete a waiver to provide proof of coverage.
Enrollment in the University sponsored health insurance is not automatic for Graduate students.
If students would like to enroll in the University-sponsored insurance plan, please e-mail healthinsurance@fairfield.edu. The cost for the yearly plan for the 2025-2026 academic year is $4,754.00*. Only graduate and doctoral students enrolled in the insurance plan will be charged for the insurance.
The University’s health insurance requirements and “hard waiver” program only apply to traditional, first-degree undergraduate students, full-time graduate students, and students enrolled in the second-degree nursing program. Voluntary enrollment in the University-sponsored health insurance plan is not available to part-time students at either the undergraduate or graduate levels. Alternatives to consider to maintain health insurance coverage while attending Fairfield University include:
- Coverage under a parent’s employer insurance plan: For those under age 26, you may qualify to enroll as a dependent on the health insurance plan held by a parent.
- Individual coverage through your state insurance marketplace: Coverage is available for individual enrollment through the insurance marketplace in the state in which you are a permanent resident. Visit healthcare.gov and complete the questionnaire to view plans that you may qualify for. Depending on your household income, you may also qualify for a subsidy for coverage purchased through your state marketplace.
- Individual health insurance plans available on the open market (outside of the official state marketplace).
If you have any questions regarding the Student Health Insurance Plan, please email healthinsurance@fairfield.edu.
