With education reform a hot topic across the state, Connecticut Commissioner of Education Stefan Pryor will give a presentation entitled "Urban Education Reform: A New Vision for Connecticut Schools" at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, at Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, is part of the University's two-year focus on cities and is sponsored by Fairfield's Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions (GSEAP).

Pryor's talk will center on Connecticut's education reform law, which is designed to transform both teaching and learning and eliminate the state's highest-in-the-nation achievement gap.

"We are delighted to be hosting this event at Fairfield," said Susan Franzosa, Ph.D., dean, GSEAP. "Commissioner Pryor is in the forefront of the education reform movement in Connecticut and our students and faculty want to be a part of that movement. We need an inclusive conversation about how we can contribute to the positive transitions in education that are taking place within the state. The commissioner's presentation will help initiate that conversation."

A former deputy mayor for economic development in Newark, N.J., Pryor co-founded New Haven's Amistad Academy, a high-performing charter school.
