Fairfield University's computer engineering department presents a talk by entrepreneur singled out by Ernst & Young and Deloitte Touche | Press Releases

On Thursday, June 30 at 7 p.m., Fairfield University's computer engineering department and the Inventors' Association of Connecticut (IACT) will present a talk given by Scott C. Nevins, a finalist in Ernst & Young's "Entrepreneur of the Year" competition. Entitled "What it takes to be a Successful Entrepreneur," the event, free and open to the public, will take place in Fairfield's School of Engineering , McAuliffe Hall, Room 102. Drawing from his extensive knowledge in the areas of mergers & acquisitions and private financing, Nevins will explain what it takes to build successful early stage companies and discuss raising capital through selling businesses.

Nevins, who began his career at GE Capital, is a principal and senior investment advisor at Bernstein Global Wealth Management's Connecticut practice, where his clients include high net worth individuals, non-profits, endowments and foundations. Prior to joining the firm, Nevins was an entrepreneur, having built and managed seven early to mid-stage venture capital backed technology and financial service companies. The recipient of a Deloitte & Touche 'Fast 50 Award,' he will explore how a chief executive officer needs to sell their vision of their company not only to employees but also to investors and clients.

Professor Doug Lyon, Ph.D., chair of the computer engineering department and IACT president, said, "Mr. Nevins is a recognized business leader with a long and impressive track record spanning more than thirty years. He is very active assisting entrepreneurs achieve their specific goals building successful companies."

Nevins' specialties include multigenerational wealth planning, philanthropic planning, investment solutions for corporate executives, planning for selling a business and retirement planning. He serves on several non-profit boards including World Affairs Forum and Connecticut Venture Group, and is very active in the angel investor and venture capital communities.
