Letter From the President

Dear Friends,

Spring is a season of renewal—a time to pause in gratitude for what has been accomplished, while also looking ahead with confidence and purpose.

At Fairfield University, this spirit of momentum and possibility is palpable, rooted in our enduring Jesuit, Catholic mission and evident in the extraordinary students who choose Fairfield.

This year, we received the largest applicant pool in our University history, including our largest cohort of Early Decision I applicants. Students applied from 49 states and more than 65 countries, with continued growth in applications from Jesuit and Cristo Rey schools—an affirmation that our mission resonates with students seeking intellectual rigor, ethical formation, and purpose in service of the greater good.

Our Early Action pool was the most selective in Fairfield’s history, with an admit rate of 22 percent. While selectivity alone is never the measure of who we are, it signals something important: Fairfield is increasingly recognized as a university where students are challenged to think deeply, supported to grow fully, and prepared to lead lives of purpose. This entering class’s talent, drive, and commitment to community give me great confidence in our future.

Fairfield continues to serve as a forum for dialogue and discernment in a complex and changing world. We welcomed distinguished national voices—including Ken Burns, Elaine Pagels, Eboo Patel, and Thomas Chatterton Williams—whose visits brought perspective, discussion, and reflection to our community. These encounters reflect our belief that education flourishes when ideas are engaged thoughtfully and differences are met with respect.

The life of the mind is animated through the arts in our yearlong suite of America250: The Promise and Paradox programming. Fairfield University Art Museum’s exhibition, For Which It Stands…, invites us to examine our history honestly, nurture understanding, and imagine the future with both clarity and hope.

Our integration of civic life into the student experience earned Fairfield the 2026 Carnegie Elective Classification for Community Engagement, a national designation held by only 277 institutions.

At Fairfield, community engagement is central to who we are. It is present in our classrooms and laboratories, in our service and scholarship, and in our partnerships across the region. Our students are formed to understand leadership as responsibility and education as a call to the common good.

I have been reminded recently of the strength and reach of the Fairfield community far beyond campus. In my travels to visit with prospective students and alumni across the nation, I’ve encountered the enduring bonds of Stag Country—marked by pride in this institution, gratitude for its impact, and a shared commitment to the values that unite us. A recent pilgrimage with our Trustees to Paris and Venice further deepened my appreciation for the power of history, faith, and human creativity to shape not only societies, but individual lives.

These experiences reaffirm that Fairfield’s story is not confined to a place. It lives in people—in the students full of hope and determination, in the alumni who carry Fairfield into the world, and in the faculty and staff whose daily work advances our mission.

With appreciation for what has been achieved, confidence in the promise of what lies ahead, and hope for all we will continue to build together, I wish you and your family a joyful and renewing spring season.

With utmost gratitude and very best wishes,
