Three Stags garner preseason All-MAAC recognition.
Fairfield women’s basketball standout Lou Lopez-Senechal ’22 was selected as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason Player of the Year, as announced by the conference on Thursday evening. The accolade highlights a roster of three Stags to earn preseason All-MAAC recognition.
Also a unanimous pick to the preseason All-MAAC First Team, Lopez-Senechal earned All-MAAC First Team honors last season, ranking fifth in the MAAC with a team-high 15.5 points per game. Earlier in her career, the forward from Grenoble, France was the 2018-19 MAAC Rookie of the Year.
Joining Lopez-Senechal on the Preseason All-MAAC First Team is graduate student Katie Armstrong ’20. Armstrong was an All-MAAC Second Team honoree at the close of last season, netting 14.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game for the Stags.
Fairfield men’s basketball was represented by All-MAAC Third Team selection Jesus Cruz ’21. Cruz is the top-returning scorer from 2019-20 to this year’s squad after netting 11.0 points per contest last winter. He also hauled in 3.6 rebounds per game and led the Stags with 26 steals.
The complete 2020-21 schedules for Fairfield men’s and women’s basketball are both currently being finalized. The NCAA has ruled that non-conference action may begin on Nov. 25.
