Fairfield University Athletics will launch the STAGS LEAD Voter Education Program beginning this fall, as announced on Monday by Director of Athletics Paul Schlickmann. The initiative will provide both voter education and voter registration opportunities for all Fairfield University student-athletes.

"I am very proud that our coaches and student-athletes are willing to take a collaborative leadership role at this critical time and in anticipation of Election Day," said Schlickmann. "I am confident that the enthusiasm and passion of our student-athletes will set an example for all members of our community to exercise their right to vote and have their voices heard."

The head coaches of all 20 Fairfield Athletics varsity programs have endorsed dedicating time to voter education sessions for their teams during the month of September, to allow adequate time for student-athletes to register to vote, if necessary. Non-Connecticut residents who wish to vote in their home states are encouraged to research their local registration and absentee ballot deadlines.

Education sessions will include resources to research candidates and issues as well as details on registration and obtaining an absentee ballot. In addition, athletics schedules on Election Day – Tuesday, Nov. 3 – will provide ample time for student-athletes who vote locally to do so in person.

Information for all Fairfield University students, including details on voter registration and obtaining an absentee ballot, is available from the Office of Student Engagement at fairfield.edu/vote.

The STAGS LEAD Voter Education Program will be an annual initiative to encourage student-athletes to get involved and make informed decisions in politics and government at the national, state, and local levels.
