Dear Stags Family and Friends,
As we celebrate the warm spring weather and the concluding weeks of an amazing academic year, the energy on campus is palpable.
Final Exams are complete, conference championship play is nearly complete, and our student-athletes have approached both with a commitment to finishing strong. It has been another incredible year for the Stags, but the work is not finished. I’m excited to share with you some notable reflections and highlights since our fall newsletter.
Our Stags are exceptional examples of what it means to be a student-athlete in today’s world of Division I athletics. They are committed to the daily grind of training, take pride in their team, and are energized by competition. They embrace the academic rigor of challenging course loads while engaging in meaningful community service efforts; all in the pursuit of becoming the best version of themselves. They approach each day with purpose, poise, and passion as authentic ambassadors of Fairfield and thoughtful stewards of our Jesuit mission. Their relentless pursuit of excellence in every aspect of their educational experience is inspiring.
Together, these holistic efforts reflect the standards of Fairfield Athletics; to Compete, Care, Lead, and Grow every day; resulting in a year filled with remarkable achievements that are powerfully reflected in the following highlights from across our department.
In the winter season, our Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving teams made history as both claimed the MAAC Championship. For the men, the title is the first in program history while the women earned their fifth in the last full seasons. Head Coach Jake Lichter was recognized by his peers as the MAAC Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year.
At Mahoney Arena, Fairfield Women’s Basketball continued its remarkable run with a third consecutive MAAC Championship and Regular Season Championship. Individually, Kaety L’Amoreaux was named the MAAC Player of the Year as well as the national DI-AAA ADA Scholar-Athlete of the Year to highlight a tremendous list of accolades for our student-athletes. On the sidelines, Coach Carly was one of eight finalists for the WBCA National Coach of the Year.
A strong spring has been highlighted by two more MAAC Championships. Women’s Lacrosse continued its streak of eight consecutive NCAA appearances, winning the MAAC for the second straight season and the seventh time in the last eight campaigns. Individually, Men’s Golf will represented at next week’s NCAA Athens (Georgia) Regional by Rasmus Ditzinger ’28 as the individual MAAC Champion. Rasmus’s individual win marks the fourth straight season that Fairfield Golf has earned a place at an NCAA Regional.
With MAAC Championship action for Women’s Rowing and Baseball still on the docket, Fairfield Athletics continues to lead in the MAAC Commissioner’s Cup overall and women’s standings. The Commissioner’s Cup, an honor that celebrates comprehensive competitive excellence, is an annual goal of our department as a reflection of the collective commitment of all of our athletics programs.
It is with great pride that I reflect on our exceptional results thus far and look forward to the exciting conclusion of our spring seasons and remaining conference championship competition.
Your continued support of our student-athletes is paving the way for our continued success, as exemplified by the record-breaking STAGiving Day 2026, during which our varsity programs raised more than $1.28 million in critical operational support. In total, we have surpassed $4 million in philanthropic support for our varsity athletics programs, with nearly $12 million in future commitments beyond this year. This generosity fuels every aspect of the student-athlete experience—from elite academic services and top-tier training facilities to mental health resources, scholarships, and leadership development opportunities—driving our success both on and off the field. We are deeply grateful for your loyalty and passionate support. We are building strong momentum, and I firmly believe the best days for the Stags are still ahead of us.
With gratitude,
Paul Schlickmann
Vice President for Athletics
