Matthew Bucciero ’26 Selected by Chicago White Sox in the 2026 MLB Amateur Draft

On July 12, Fairfield University baseball standout Matthew Bucciero ’26 was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 10^th round of the 2026 MLB Amateur Draft. Bucciero is the 22^nd Stag ever selected in the draft and the third to be picked in the top-10 rounds.

"It's a dream come true," Bucciero said. "I'm really excited for what the future has in store. I'm extremely grateful to the White Sox for giving me an opportunity and can't wait to get after it."

Bucciero enjoyed one of the best hitting careers in the history of Fairfield baseball, graduating as the program leader in career home runs (55), RBI (225), total bases (494), runs scored (221), triples (12), walks (153), and tied for the program standard with 271 hits. He is the also the all-time RBI leader in MAAC history.

The reigning MAAC Player of the Year, Bucciero also earned three All-MAAC First Team selections, two All-Northeast Regional honors, and two ECAC All-Star accolades. He was the 2025-26 MAAC Men’s Student-Athlete of the Year, an award that encompasses all student-athletes in all sports across the conference.

In addition, Bucciero was a First Team Academic All-American and the Fairfield University Alumni Association Men’s Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He graduated magna cum laude this past May with a degree in finance.

The 22^nd Stag selected in the MLB Draft, he is the seventh in 15 years under retiring head coach Bill Currier. Bucciero is the first to be drafted within the first 10 rounds since Hall of Famer Keefe Cato was a second-round pick in 1982.

Bucciero helped leads the Stags to four consecutive 30-win seasons, two MAAC Regular Season Championships, the 2025 MAAC Tournament Championship, and an NCAA Regional appearance.
