History came in pairs on March 24 at Don ’63 and Chris ’88 Cook Field. In a 12-3 victory over Central Connecticut State, Head Coach Bill Currier notched his 900th career victory, while Matthew Bucciero ’26 launched his record-setting 41st career home run.
Coach Currier, who is in the midst of his 37th and final season as a collegiate head coach, is one of 15 active Division I head coaches to record 900 career wins. The three-time MAAC Coach of the Year and two-time MAAC Champion is 408-322 (.559) in 15 seasons leading the Stags. He previously posted a 492-470-4 record in 22 seasons as the head coach at Vermont; Currier is one of only six coaches to ever record 400+ head coaching wins with two Division I programs.
Bucciero’s blast, which punctuated Fairfield’s 12-run onslaught in the bottom of the eighth inning, was the 41st of his career, breaking a tie atop the all-time leaderboard with his former teammate and current Seattle Mariners prospect Charlie Pagliarini ’23.
Bucciero, who is the only Stag to hit 15+ homers in two separate seasons, is also Fairfield’s all-time leader in runs batted in (185), triples (12), and runs scored (185). He ranks second in walks (127), third in hits (230), ninth in doubles (40), and 13th in stolen bases (45). He is a two-time All-MAAC First Team honoree and was the 2025 MAAC Championship MVP.
