Participants in the Leadership Fellows Program (LFP) work with administrators across the University on projects that support student success and institutional strategy.

In spring 2024, Fairfield University launched the Leadership Fellows Program (LFP), a two-year, full-time paid fellowship for recent graduates of Fairfield bachelor’s and master’s degree programs interested in gaining professional experience in higher education administration.

The selective program places young alumni in cross-functional assignments across key areas of the University, including Academics, Advancement, Enrollment, Information Technology Services (ITS), Marketing and Communications, and Human Resources. Through these rotations, fellows contribute to institutional initiatives while building experience in project management, collaboration, and organizational strategy.

In addition to their day-to-day responsibilities, LFP participants engage in structured professional development and mentorship with University leaders. The program is designed to give early-career professionals exposure to the operational and strategic work that supports a complex institution.

The inaugural group of fellows is now approaching the conclusion of their two-year cycle. Along the way, they’ve worked on projects ranging from enrollment initiatives and advancement campaigns to communications strategy and internal process improvements.

As they complete the program, the first cohort reflected on their experiences and encouraged like-minded recent Fairfield alumni to explore this unique opportunity.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration

Through the LFP, graduate student Grace Cotoia ’25, has strengthened her professional communication skills while gaining a deeper appreciation for how collaboration across departments supports the student experience.

“Seeing the intentional work behind the scenes has underscored how institutional coordination can shape one of the most important decisions in a student’s life,” she said.

Lessons in Leadership

For Marianna Kalin ’25, who is enrolled in both the Fairfield Dolan MBA and a Dolan MS program, the fellowship has offered early responsibility and mentorship from University leaders. She has developed strong communication, analytical, and relationship-building skills, and she encourages future fellows to engage fully in each placement and learn from service-driven administrators.

Holistic Development

Fairfield Dolan MBA student Nicholas Condos MS’24 was drawn to the program for the opportunity to work across multiple functional areas of the University. The experience strengthened his adaptability and communication skills while deepening his understanding of how Fairfield’s mission informs institutional decision-making.

Mission-Centered Management

Fairfield Dolan MBA student Faizah Chowdhury ’25 joined the LFP seeking accelerated growth within a mission-centered institution. Her work implementing Workday Student Journeys helped improve systems that directly support student success. Through cross-functional projects, she has developed skills in project management, data analysis, and stakeholder engagement.

Growth Mindset

Margaret Lonsinger MS’25 was drawn to the program’s emphasis on learning and community. Working with first-year students in Fairfield Dolan, she has built meaningful relationships while strengthening her understanding of collaboration and change management.

Industry Preparedness

Fairfield Dolan MBA student Alessandra Ponce MS’24 joined the program to explore her strengths through project-based work. Her leadership on a year-round Athletics fundraising campaign supported alumni and community engagement while developing her skills in marketing strategy and institutional operations.

Together, the Leadership Fellows Program and its participants are a reflection of Fairfield University’s commitment to develop early-career professionals through immersive experience and mentorship. By working on real institutional projects, fellows gain practical insight into the operations and leadership of a modern, Jesuit Catholic university.
