Fairfield's Women’s soccer, volleyball, and field hockey teams enter 2025 as defending league champions.
A trio of defending 2024 Fairfield University conference champions enter the 2025 fall season as the preseason favorites. Women’s soccer and volleyball both top their respective Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) preseason polls, while Stags field hockey was chosen to repeat in the Northeast Conference (NEC) preseason poll.
Women’s soccer is atop the MAAC preseason poll after a historic 18-3-1 campaign last fall, capped by a MAAC Championship and NCAA postseason trip. Maddy Theriault ’26 was chosen as the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year after collecting the MAAC Golden Boot last season as the league’s top offensive player. Theriault has lived up to the billing thus far in 2025, contributing to all seven of Fairfield’s scores with five goals and two assists in four matches. The Stags are 3-1-0 on the young season with victories over Holy Cross, Boston University, and Vermont.
Fairfield’s next home soccer match is this Friday, Aug. 29, when Harvard comes to Lessing Field for a 6 p.m. kickoff. Admission is free for all fans for all August home matches.
Volleyball headed its MAAC preseason poll as the defending back-to-back MAAC Champions and Regular Season Champions. The Stags return a trio of All-MAAC First Team honorees—Allie Elliott ’26, Mamie Krubally ’27, and Maya Walker ’26—from last season’s club that finished 21-12 overall and 17-1 in the MAAC. Elliott, Krubally, and Walker all begin this fall as Preseason All-MAAC selections.
The Stags open the 2025 volleyball campaign this weekend with three matches at Old Dominion. The home schedule begins on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. against reigning Ivy League Champion Yale. Admission is free for all fans to all regular season home matches this season at Leo D. Mahoney Arena.
In the Northeast Conference, Fairfield Field Hockey has been chosen to repeat as NEC Champs. The Stags finished the final season for Head Coach Jackie Kane ’87 with a 12-9 record, raising the conference trophy for the third time since 2019. This year’s squad—now under the direction of Head Coach Laura Gebhart—welcomes back a core that includes All-NEC First Teamer and NEC Tournament MVP Catalina Ness ’27 and All-NEC Second Team honorees Pilar Mengotti ’26 and Alex Senior ’26.
Field hockey season begins this weekend with visits to Lafayette and Syracuse. The home opener is set for Friday, Sept. 5 at 4 p.m. against Villanova. Admission is free for all fans to all regular season games on University Field this season.
