This summer, the Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) program in the School of Education and Human Development (SEHD) was ranked the top program in Connecticut by MarriageFamilyTherapist.org, a leading online resource for the field.

“This rating is a reflection of our truly exceptional graduate students and nationally recognized faculty members who are committed to addressing the growing need for mental health providers in Connecticut," said Associate Professor Michelle Parker, PhD, LMFT, director of the Marriage and Family Therapy program.

A key component to the program is its on-campus clinic, The Kathryn P. Koslow Center for Marriage and Family Therapy, where graduate students provide therapy for individuals, couples, and families under the supervision of licensed faculty and clinical supervisors. The Center offers both in-person and telehealth services on a sliding scale, giving students valuable hands-on training while expanding access to care for the community.

In addition to clinical work, students engage in faculty-mentored research, rigorous coursework, and advanced clinical training. This comprehensive preparation is especially timely: according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of marriage and family therapists is projected to grow 16 percent from 2023 to 2033—much faster than the average for all occupations.

MarriageFamilyTherapist.org develops its rankings using data from trusted sources, including the U.S. Department of Education and the National Center for Education Statistics. The site was created by licensed therapists, academic researchers, and writers to help aspiring therapists explore degree programs, prepare for licensure, and advance their careers.
