This year’s annual Move-In/Fall Welcome for first-year students will take place September 4.
What not to bring is equally as important as what to bring. Therefore, students, especially first-years, are strongly encouraged not to bring everything on move-in day that they think they might need during the course of the year.
Alumni & Family Weekend and scheduled holidays provide additional opportunities to bring back personal items.
The following items are NOT PERMITTED in the Residence Halls for Fall 2020. Please leave these items at home.
Fairfield recommends each student only bring one car to move in. However, we will not limit vehicle access to campus. Students are encouraged to keep personal belongings to a minimum for the fall semester. Students should pack what will make them feel comfortable, but also be prepared to move quickly if circumstances beyond our control will require Residence Hall closing without advanced notice.
Yes. Only one guest can be inside at a time for social distancing purposes.
We are requesting students remain on-campus for the weekend once they have moved in so that they limit their exposure to those outside the Fairfield University community. We will have a full schedule of engagement opportunities between their move-in date and the first day of classes to help new students transition to campus and start building connections with their peers.
Families will be asked to depart campus once their student's 90-minute move-in slot ends to allow for a lower campus density and social distancing with the halls.
Immediate family members are able to come to campus after move-in weekend, but aren't allowed inside the residence halls. It is recommended families keep in touch virtually as much as possible and items are mailed instead of hand-delivered to campus. Since the staggered move-in process occurs all weekend, we ask that folks who are not actively moving students in avoid coming to campus to help with traffic flow and on-campus density.
Campion and Jogues are air conditioned but Gonzaga, Loyola, and Regis are not.
Students will be emailed their mailbox number and combination the week of August 17.
While each room will have a default set-up where one set of furniture (desk, bed, dresser, wardrobe) is on each side, students are able to reconfigure their furniture however they choose as long as the egresses are clear. Roommates should discuss furniture configuration together once everyone has moved in.
They will be locked in order to ensure social distancing but can be used by reservation.
We will have laundry bins available for use at every residence hall. Families are asked to use the same bin for their entire move-in process so they can be cleaned between uses. Families are welcome to bring their own dollies and carts as well. Elevator traffic flow will be monitored by staff.
If students are interested in raising their beds a few inches, they should buy and bring bed raisers. If students want to loft or bunk their beds, they will need to submit a work order with Facilities once on-campus.
We will have a full schedule of engagement opportunities between when they move in and the first day of classes to help new students orient to campus and start building connections with their peers. Students will follow a schedule based off of their move-in time. There are required and optional, in-person and virtual, and formal and informal components. Downtime is built into the schedule.
Philo Edu delivers live TV and DVR capabilities to laptops, tablets, smartphones, and Roku-enabled TV sets anywhere on the University network for all on-campus residents. Visit www.fairfield.edu/philo for more information about Philo Edu.
No, please arrive at your assigned time. Cars will be held in staging areas if they arrive too early.
Right on the next tab under "What to Bring & Not to Bring".
All cars will be directed to check-in areas, where students will exit the car to get their room key and StagCard before heading to their residence hall.
Dining services have been spread across campus to allow for social distancing. Students will be assigned to a specific location and should only go to that one to grab and go or grab and sit their meal, using their meal plan.
