Investing in student scholarship and financial aid

"The proper education of youth will mean improvement for the whole world,"
— Pedro de Ribadeneira, S.J. (1527-1611), biographer of St. Ignatius of Loyola, in a letter to King Philip ll of Spain.

Many of Fairfield’s alumni were the first in their families to attend college and came from diverse social and economic backgrounds. And many of our alumni were only able to attend our University because generosity towards Fairfield made it financially possible. Doors were opened, careers, families and life-long friendships launched, all in the spirit of the magis – doing more for others. At the same time, we seek to attract top students through merit awards and other scholarships that will allow them support for academic research and projects. These awards build Fairfield’s reputation as a destination University for students of unique promise and ability.

Jesuit education has always been inspired by this vision — to form men and women to become leaders in business, the arts, the sciences and medicine; persons of integrity who will go out and transform their communities for the better. Providing a world-class education to men and women regardless of their circumstances is a proud Fairfield tradition. It is in our DNA.

All across the country major economic shifts have significantly impacted the affordability of a college education. To address this reality, increasing scholarship is a key University priority.

RISING TO THIS CHALLENGE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER. YOUR INVESTMENT ENSURES THAT TALENTED INDIVIDUALS, REGARDLESS OF THEIR PERSONAL MEANS, CAN ALWAYS CALL FAIRFIELD HOME.

Your Impact: Providing scholarships to worthy students who need assistance to achieve their potential. Endowing a scholarship will create a legacy because your gift will live in perpetuity and add value to the lives of hundreds of students through an education that would otherwise be out of reach. Your gift will make it possible to attract excellent and worthy young men and women like Sherice Reid ’16 and will allow us to be true to our tradition and character for generations to come.

"I want to thank you for helping me to further my studies. A quality education is one of the greatest gifts a person can receive. I hope when I get older I am able to give back in the same way."

Transforming the Lives of Others Today

Rarely does generosity have such an immediate impact on the lives of others than through annual gifts to the Fairfield Fund. Why? Because these unrestricted gifts provide flexibility through the immediate availability of resources to be directed where they are most urgently needed.

Ensuring day-to-day operations are funded and special initiatives and programs are strengthened, means that we can spend more time focusing on the future, continuing to be a university that inspires young men and women to follow their dreams and succeed in the world.

Rise to the Challenge and Seize the Opportunity Today

Your Impact:

Instruction, Academic Support, and Student Services:

Most people don’t realize that tuition and fees account for only a portion of Fairfield’s annual budget. Gifts to The Fairfield Fund create an essential bridge between tuition revenues and the actual cost of educating a Fairfield student, ensuring access to a first-rate education.

Student Life and Career Services:

The Fairfield Fund provides resources to support Student Government, Career Services and Student Clubs from the Sports Clubs to the Glee Club, essential aspects of the University experience.

Financial Aid:

With approximately 8 out of 10 Fairfield students relying on financial aid, sustaining and increasing assistance for talented students is a top priority.

Institutional Support and Administration:
Fairfield University is not unlike a small city. Dollars from The Fairfield Fund make it possible for us to provide the wide range of services and support necessary to keep Fairfield operating at our fullest potential 365 days a year.

"When I ask alumni what their favorite memory of Fairfield is, they usually can't pick just one — they all have so many great memories and deep bonds from their years at Fairfield that they treasure. All alumni have a role in supporting Fairfield students through their gifts, and as phonathon volunteer I get to see the amazing results."

Vibrant Centers For Student Life & Wellness

Fairfield U student centers and visions for the future

Serving the life of the mind, the body, and the heart.

From the very beginning, what has distinguished Jesuit education has been the understanding that a true education means care for the whole person. At Fairfield, the mind is sharpened in the classroom and the body strengthened through healthy avenues of physical fitness and recreation. Today, over 98% of our students use the Leslie C. Quick Jr. Recreation Complex for personal physical fitness, intramurals, sports clubs and general recreation.

Establishing a renewed environment for healthy living and wellness will ensure deliberate and intentional steps are taken to focus on the lives of students outside the classroom. The University depends on programs and facilities to build community and character. And our loyal donors have all made it possible.

The Leslie C. Quick Jr. Recreation Complex; The Egan Chapel of St. Ignatius Loyola; the Thomas J. Walsh Art Gallery; Rafferty Stadium; Lessing Field; Meditz Hall; The DiMenna-Nyselius Library; Alumni Hall — are among the many centers of living and learning that serve the development and wellbeing of our students.

“The RecPlex is very important to me. I’ll take some laps in the pool to cool down after a rugby game, or work out late at night. With the new renovations, Fairfield will match our peers’ schools. I think the changes will be a huge selling point with prospective students. I’m excited for what is to come.” – Hunter Boesch ’18
