Types of On-Campus Jobs

Federal Work Study (FWS)

Federal Work Study is federally funded by both the Department of Education and Fairfield University and provides part-time jobs for full-time undergraduate students with significant financial need.

Eligibility may change from year to year and is determined after completing the FAFSA. The Student Employment Office of Financial Aid works in accordance with the law, federal regulations, and with instructions from the United States Department of Education.

Non-Work Study (NWS)

Non-Work Study jobs are available to active, undergraduate students enrolled at least half-time during a regular semester at Fairfield University. (Half-time is equivalent to six credit hours for undergraduate students.)

NWS jobs are funded by the department in which the student is employed.

Graduate students attending at least half-time may apply for non-work study jobs that are open to graduate level students.

Student Employment Process and Requirements

Detailed instructions of the application process are available and the on-campus student job site is located in Workday, accessible via my.Fairfield.

For assistance, please contact the Student Employment Office via email or telephone, (203) 254-4125.

Once hired for an on-campus job, all students are required to complete an employment onboarding process. The first steps in the employment onboarding process include the following:

  • Personal Information
  • Contact Information
  • Completing an I-9 Form

The Student Employment Office is responsible for verifying I-9 forms. To complete the verification process, we are required by the Department of Homeland Security to receive acceptable documentation presented in-person.

After submitting the I-9 form via Workday, students are required to visit the Student Employment Office (located in the Kelley Center, Financial Aid) to present the acceptable documentation.

You can find the form of acceptable document(s) to present here.

  • You can present one document from List A;
  • Or if you decide to present a document from List B, you must present one from List C as well
  • Documents must be the original version (photos, copies, faxes will not be accepted) and unexpired

After I-9 verification is complete, students will receive additional employment onboarding tasks in Workday. The next series of tasks include the following:

  • Federal Tax Election
  • State Tax Election
  • Payment Election
  • Veteran Identification Status

Students cannot begin training or begin work until the I-9 verification and employment onboarding tasks are successfully completed. Failure to complete this process in a timely manner will result in the suspension of the student’s position.

Eligibility

International Students

As a non-U.S citizen, International students are authorized to work until their expiration date, if applicable. Students are required to complete the employment onboarding process, which includes the I-9 Form assigned in Workday. This onboarding must be completed promptly, as students cannot begin training or begin work until the employment onboarding and I-9 verification are successfully completed.

For international students at Fairfield University, acceptable documents include the following:

  • Foreign Passport
  • Social Security Card
  • Printed copies of your I-94 and F-1 documents

These documents must be the original versions and unexpired.

Permanent Residents

A lawful permanent resident of the United States.

All students are required to complete the employment onboarding process, including I-9 Form assigned in Workday. Students must complete the onboarding immediately as they are not able to begin training or begin work without completing the employment onboarding and I-9 verification process.

Students must visit the Student Employment Office in-person to present their Permanent Resident card, also known as a Green Card.

Off-Campus Student Employment Opportunities

Fairfield University partners with local community agencies to provide eligible Federal Work Study students additional employment opportunities. Community service jobs contribute to improving the quality of life for both the local community and its residents. These jobs also provide students with valuable work experience in their desired field of study, and the opportunity to network and build relationships in the community both professionally and personally.

Off-Campus Federal Work Study (FWS)

All available jobs are posted on the student job listing site via Workday.

In order to apply, students must have a current FWS award as part of their financial aid package. After applying in Workday, a Hiring Manager from the community agency will contact students directly to schedule an interview.

The hiring process is initiated by Fairfield University’s Student Employment Office to ensure the best student employment experience for all parties involved.

Note: Federal Work Study (FWS) jobs at local community agencies are located off-campus. Students must have their own transportation.
