Fairfield University’s John Charles Meditz College of Arts and Sciences MFA in Creative Writing and Arts Institute will host award-winning author Nicholas Boggs on Monday, October 5 at 7:30 p.m.
The event will take place at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts’ Wien Experimental Theatre, and it is open to the public.
Boggs will be joined by Fairfield professor and National Book Award-winning author, Phil Klay. Klay was also recently named president and chair of the Board of Trustees of PEN America, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting free expression through literature in the United States and around the world.
About Nicholas Boggs
Nicholas Boggs, author of the award-winning: Baldwin: A Love Story, will be in conversation with Klay to discuss James Baldwin’s life and legacy.
Boggs’s New York Times bestselling book is the first major biography of the iconic figure in over three decades. It won the 2026 John Leonard Prize (for the best first book in any genre) from the National Book Critics Circle, the 2026 ALA Stonewall Book Award in Nonfiction, and an Audie Award for Best Book in History or Biography.
Boggs also co-edited a new edition of Baldwin’s collaboration with French artist Yoran Cazac, Little Man, Little Man: A Story of Childhood (2018). He is the recipient of a 2023 Whiting Creative Nonfiction Grant and fellowships from the Leon Levy Center for Biography, the Scholars-in-Residence program at the Schomburg Center, the Gilder Lehrman Center and Beinecke Library at Yale, and the National Endowment for the Humanities, as well as residencies at Yaddo and MacDowell. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., he received his BA from Yale and his PhD from Columbia, both in English, as well as an MFA in Creative Writing from American University. He now resides in New York City.
