Fairfield University announces a robust schedule of arts and culture events throughout June 2026, featuring acclaimed performances, art exhibitions, and engaging programs for the community.
Taking place at venues across campus, offerings highlight contemporary creativity, global perspectives, and creative conversations. June programming includes celebrations of Flag Day and Make Music Day, performances from The National Theatre Live and The Met: Live in HD, tours of the For Which It Stands… exhibition in honor of America250, and more.
Many events connect to America250: The Promise and Paradox, Fairfield University’s ongoing exploration of the nation’s 250th anniversary, highlighting the arts as a catalyst for dialogue, reflection, and community engagement in Connecticut and beyond.

The Met: Live in HD | Frank & Cruz's El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego

The Met’s season concludes with Gabriela Lena Frank’s El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego. This magical-realist opera, featuring a libretto by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Nilo Cruz, tells the story of Frida Kahlo returning from the underworld to reunite briefly with Diego Rivera. Mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard and baritone Carlos Álvarez star as the iconic artists, portraying both the passion and pain of their legendary love. Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts this Met-premiere production. Directed and choreographed by Deborah Colker, the staging draws vivid inspiration from Frida and Diego’s paintings and has been praised for its bold color and emotional depth. This landmark event brings a powerful new voice to the operatic stage, celebrating art, love, and legacy in unforgettable style.
National Theatre Live | The Playboy of the Western World

Pegeen Flaherty’s life is turned upside down when a young man walks into her pub claiming that he’s killed his father. Instead of being shunned, the killer becomes a local hero and begins to win hearts, that is until a second man unexpectedly arrives on the scene… Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton) joins Éanna Hardwicke (The Sixth Commandment) and Siobhán McSweeney (Derry Girls) in John Millington Synge’s riveting play of youth and self-discovery. Filmed live on stage at the National Theatre, Caitríona McLaughlin directs this darkly funny tale full to the brim with secrets.

Art Exhibition | For Which It Stands…

This exhibition examines depictions of the American flag through more than 70 works by a diverse group of artists, beginning during WWI with Childe Hassam’s Italian Day, May 1918 and continuing to the present day, including a textile sculpture commissioned for the show from Maria de Los Angeles. The exhibition includes work in a variety of media by artists including Jasper Johns, Faith Ringgold, Robert Rauschenberg, Shepard Fairey, and Julie Mehretu, and challenges viewers to consider who the American flag truly represents and whether justice is available to all.

Join the Arts & Minds community for a joyful, family-friendly afternoon celebrating Flag Day with art, music, food, and family-friendly activities. Free and open to all, the afternoon will include a complimentary ice cream social, live music by Sweetcake Mountain Bluegrass Band, face painting by Picasso Parties, and a pop-up Circus Zone by Circus Moves. The Fairfield University Art Museum will be open from 1–5 p.m., featuring the exhibition For Which It Stands... in both galleries. Spend a summer afternoon on campus enjoying live bluegrass, free ice cream, and activities for all ages. Bring the kids, meet friends, and soak in the spirit of the day.

Fairfield University’s Center for Arts & Minds is thrilled to welcome community members to its stage for Make Music Fairfield Day. From 1 – 8 p.m. there will be musical acts from the campus community, as well as groups from all over Connecticut, celebrating the Summer Equinox. With family activities, as well as snacks and crafts, this is an event for the whole family to enjoy. Performers and bands include Snakeskin Boots, Ellis Island, ZX3, The Bad Saints, The Other Four, King’s Highway, and Fairfield faculty group The Noodlers.

Children's Storytime in the Fairfield Forest

Every Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., depending on attendance, local reading teacher and Fairfield University Store employee Steve Gaynes takes children on a journey through the magic of the written word.
Children's Storytime is held in the Fairfield Forest children's section at the Fairfield University Store, located at 1499 Post Road in Fairfield Center. This event is geared toward children's interests, including the books and/or guests that will be chosen. Children's Storytime is open to the public. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
Author Michael Zanetti Visits Bookstore with New Book, The Amazing Octopus

The Fairfield University Store will host Children's Author Michael Zanetti during its Children's Storytime, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 6. He will present his new book The Amazing Octopus.
Zanetti had previously visited the bookstore for his successful kids' book, The Sloth and His Friends. Dive into this cool and delightful aquatic adventure. Ozzie is pretty clever - even for an octopus. He loves to entertain his friends in the coral reef with his playful antics. When a fisherman catches Ozzie and decides to keep him as a pet, the octopus's life is transformed. The humans soon discover that Ozzie has "magical" gifts. This is no ordinary octopus! At first, Ozzie is happy to play along with the humans. Then he realizes that his undersea home is under threat. The humans have been polluting the oceans everywhere. Marine life is in danger and time is running out. Will Ozzie survive his adventure with the humans? Will his lovely ocean home be destroyed? Will the humans clean up their act before it's too late? Although this story is quirky, lighthearted, and full of octopus jokes, it has a serious and important message about protecting our ocean.
Dr. Dale Atkins Presents New Children's Book, Dear Deer, with Storytime & Crafts

Author Dr. Dale Atkins will return to host a Storytime & Craft Hour for her new children's book, Dear Deer, at 12 p.m. on Sat., June 20, at the Fairfield University Store, 1499 Post Road, Fairfield, CT.
Dear Deer is a love letter to forest animals and the natural world, capturing the curiosity and excitement of a pair of children as they learn about, discover, and explore the wonders of the wild. As the children embark on their adventure, they come across a fawn, a baby deer, in distress, prompting them to find a way to help without causing any harm. Through their efforts, children will learn valuable lessons about compassion, patience, empathy, tuning into one’s senses, and the delicate balance of nature. Inspiration for Dear Deer stems from the author’s own experiences, where she developed a strong connection with the natural world. Through Dear Deer, she aims to share this respect and love for nature with young readers, encouraging them to develop a lifelong appreciation for the environment and its inhabitants by asking questions, making observations, drawing conclusions, and seeking solutions.

The Fairfield University Store is excited to join Make Music Day once again. Musicians will perform from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, in front of the store at 1499 Post Road in downtown Fairfield. Performers and bands include include Shamrogues, John Van Dyck, Julie Foldesi, Parker’s Tangent, Sadie Zabar, K.J. Whitton, The Flatts, Bill Dempsey, and Sean O’Reilly.
