Fairfield University Athletics and the Connecticut Lottery Corporation proudly partnered during the 2024-2025 basketball season to celebrate educators across Fairfield County.
The collaboration was centered around recognizing teachers and promoting community engagement, particularly during men’s and women’s basketball games at Leo D. Mahoney Arena.
At each home game throughout the season, one exceptional educator was named “Teacher of the Game,” a recognition that included an in-game celebration for both the teacher and their students. This initiative served as a spirited way to honor the dedication and impact of educators across Connecticut.
In addition, the Connecticut Lottery pledged to donate $10 for every assist made by the Fairfield University women’s basketball team this season, up to $4,000. The funds raised were designated to support classroom supplies in a Fairfield County public school.
The selected school, Thomas Hooker School in Bridgeport, Conn. was chosen from among the schools that participated in Fairfield University’s annual Kids Day Out — a signature event that brings thousands of local students to campus to experience a Division I basketball game and college spirit. This year’s Kids Day Out game drew a sold-out crowd of 3,500 students.
On June 16, representatives from the Connecticut Lottery visited Thomas Hooker School to present a check for $4,000 to be used for classroom supplies.
