Fairfield University’s Office of Mission and Ministry will welcome Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York, for a special program, An Evening with Timothy Cardinal Dolan: Reflections on the Conclave and the New American Pope: Leo XIV, on Thursday, September 4 at 6 p.m. at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. Admission is free, and advance registration is encouraged.

Cardinal Dolan will offer a firsthand perspective on the historic election of Pope Leo XIV — the first American to ascend to the papacy. Known for his warmth, wit, and pastoral heart, Cardinal Dolan will reflect on the significance of this moment for the Catholic Church, the faithful, and the global community.

“This is an extraordinary time for the Church,” said Rev. Paul Rourke, S.J., Fairfield University’s vice president for Mission and Ministry. “The election of Pope Leo XIV marks a moment of hope, renewal, and possibility. To hear from someone who was in the room during the conclave — and who has dedicated his life to shepherding the people of God — is a rare opportunity for our community.”

Cardinal Dolan’s visit is part of Fairfield University’s broader commitment to fostering conversations that unite faith, intellect, and civic engagement. “We believe deeply in the power of dialogue,” Fr. Rourke added. “Cardinal Dolan’s reflections will help us understand not only the historic nature of this papacy but also what it means to live out our faith with courage and joy in today’s world.”

The evening will feature a moderated conversation, offering attendees the chance to gain deeper insight into the spiritual, cultural, and geopolitical dimensions of Pope Leo XIV’s election. Following his remarks, Cardinal Dolan will take part in a Q&A session with the audience.

This event is presented by Fairfield University’s Office of Mission and Ministry with the Center for Arts & Minds.
