Fairfield University’s Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing & Health Studies was one of 16 nursing programs nationwide to be named as a National League for Nursing (NLN) Center of Excellence. The Egan School will be formally inducted during the Honors Convocation at the 2022 NLN Education Summit in Las Vegas, Nevada in September.
Fairfield was in the company of Duke School of Nursing, Boston College, Emory, Indiana University, and Villanova, among others on the list of schools to receive the NLN distinction.
“I am beyond grateful for our Egan faculty and staff whose expertise and hard work earned this designation,” said Egan School Dean Meredith Kazer, PhD, APRN, FAAN. “I am grateful to our nursing students who embrace our Fairfield education and use it to make the world a better place. And I am grateful to the NLN for recognizing the Egan School with this honor, as a Center of Excellence.”
The NLN’s Center of Excellence designation is based on the school’s sustained excellence in faculty development, nursing education research, and student learning and professional development. Fairfield’s Egan School was specifically selected for its sustained efforts to “promote the pedagogical expertise of faculty.” Egan’s programs offer the latest in healthcare equipment and modern classroom settings to provide a practical and engaging education for students, while offering a strong liberal arts education with the theory-based knowledge and skills to work in the expanding fields of nursing and health studies. Students grow both personally and professionally to become committed and compassionate nurses, capable of providing professional care to people in any setting.
NLN CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN said, “NLN Centers of Excellence help raise the bar for all nursing programs by role modeling visionary leadership and environments of inclusive excellence that nurture the next generation of a strong and diverse nursing workforce to advance the health of the nation and the global community.”
