Fairfield University Art Museum Announces New Series, Art in Focus

FAIRFIELD, CONN. (September 19, 2017) – The Fairfield University Art Museum announces a new monthly series of gallery conversations, Art in Focus , beginning Thursday, September 28 at 11 a.m. in the museum’s Bellarmine Hall Galleries on the campus of Fairfield University. During each event in the series, one painting, print, or sculpture in the museum’s collection will take center stage for an hour’s worth of close looking and informal discussion, led by Curator of Education Michelle DiMarzo, PhD.

On September 28, Art in Focus will examine Carlo Maratta’s Bacchus and Ariadne (ca. 1680), on loan from a private collection. In this scene, drawn from Greco-Roman mythology, Maratta depicted the moment of encounter between Ariadne, a beautiful princess abandoned by her lover, and Bacchus, the god of wine, fertility, and madness. The museum’s Bellarmine Hall Galleries are located on the lower level of Bellarmine Hall on the campus of Fairfield University, 200 Barlow Road, Fairfield, Connecticut. It is open to the public Tuesday through Friday, 11-4 p.m., when classes are in session. Admission is free. The Fairfield University Museum of Art is handicap-accessible.
