New York’s top saxophonist and composer to perform with Fairfield University Jazz Ensemble

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (April 10, 2017) — Kenny Berger, a long standing presence on New York’s jazz scene, will join The Fairfield University Jazz Ensemble on Apr. 20 at the Fairfield University Gonzaga Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the performance are $5 and will be available for purchase at the door.

Directed by Brian Q. Torff, the University’s Music Program Director, the eight piece Jazz Ensemble will perform jazz classics with their signature twist. Highlighting the work of renowned jazz artists Horace Silver, Milt Jackson, Wes Montgomery, ensemble pianist Joey Barbieri and class of 2016 composer Amanda Ocasio. The concert will also feature performances by Torff, along with guest artist Berger.

“Kenny Berger is a renowned baritone saxophonist who has worked with many of the the best big bands in jazz. He will be be our first guest artist on this instrument,” said Torff.

Kenny Berger is one of New York’s top baritone saxophonists and composer-arrangers, he has a wealth of experience in both small and large ensembles in a variety of jazz styles, and many years of experience as a teacher of arranging, composition, ensembles, saxophone and jazz history at the college and university levels. He is also a jazz historian and journalist with a unique insider’s perspective.
