The Met Live in HD season continues at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 1 p.m. (live show) and 6 p.m. (encore) with Verdi’s Otello . Directed by Bartlett Sher and inspired by Shakespeare's Othello, Verdi explores the intensity of Shakespeare's tragedy through a union of music and drama - a masterpiece as profound philosophically as it is thrilling theatrically.

Tickets are $25, $20 for seniors and $5 for children and students (including Fairfield University students). For tickets, visit http://www.quickcenter.com or call the box office at 203-254-4010 or toll free at 1-877-ARTS-396.

Often cited as Italian opera’s greatest tragedy, Otello almost did not see the light of day, as Verdi, at the time of its composition, considered himself as having retired from the opera. However, he was convinced to undertake the work after meeting with librettist, Arrigo Boito.

A new staging of Verdi’s masterpiece, Otello will be conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin and directed by Bartlett Sher. Aleksandrs Antonenko makes his Met debut as the tormented Moor of Venice, with Sonya Yoncheva as Desdemona, and Željko Lučić as Otello’s sinister rival, Iago. The staging also features Dimitri Pittas as Cassio and Günther Groissböck as Lodovico.
