Fairfield University named among 10 best Roman Catholic colleges in U.S.

Fairfield was singled out for its focus on social justice and encouraging students to develop both intellectually and spiritually. In addition to its academic programs, the University was recognized for its retreat, service and immersion programs.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (June 1, 2015) – Out of the more than 200 Roman Catholic colleges and universities in the country, Fairfield University has been ranked in the top 10 of schools.

The list was compiled by College Factual, a data-driven resource dedicated to assisting prospective college students, and recently featured on USA Today’s College web site. The schools were considered using College Factual’s quality ranking system, which is highly focused on outcomes such as loan default rates, graduation rates and average salaries of graduates.

The impressive list featured Georgetown, Boston College and the University of Notre Dame, among other top institutions.

“We are proud to be included in such a prestigious group of Universities and proud of our tradition of supporting our students as they embrace and develop their full creative, intellectual potential while developing a strong sense of social responsibility,” said Lynn Babington, Ph.D., RN, provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs.

Karen A. Pellegrino, Dean of Enrollment, said, “We are especially pleased that Fairfield was recognized for its stellar academic programs, as well as its strong Jesuit tradition of helping students of all faiths to grow both intellectually and spiritually.”

College Factual editors put together the list , noting that some students choose a college because they want to be built up spiritually as they learn more about their faith and the many faiths of the world. Editors said of the 10 institutions of higher education that made the final cut: “These schools are devoted to providing a strong education while being rooted in the Roman Catholic faith. Tradition and faith are important to these schools, but they also value diversity and open dialogue. Most of these schools accept and support students of any faith or belief system.”

In Fairfield’s profile, the Jesuit University’s “popular academic programs” were cited, plus its low student to faculty ratio and “excellent graduation rates.”

The University was also singled out for its focus on social justice and encouraging students to develop both intellectually and spiritually by way of its many retreat, service and immersion programs. The Campus Ministry Center was also touted for welcoming students at Fairfield of all religions and teaching students Jesuit values. For more information about Fairfield, visit www.fairfield.edu .
