The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks

Fairfield University holds free lecture to be given by Jeanne Theohar, winner of 2014 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work, presenting new image of Rosa Parks as a radical activist.

Rosa Parks When: Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 7 p.m.

Where: Fairfield University’s Kelley Center Presentation Room in the Aloysius P. Kelley S.J. Center.

What: Dr. Jeanne Theoharis, distinguished professor of political science at CUNY Brooklyn, will deliver a free lecture for the public on famous activist Mrs. Rosa Parks, “The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks.” Event is in honor of Black History Month and Women’s History Month. Media is welcome.

Dr. Theoharis is the author of numerous books and articles on the civil rights and Black Power movements, the politics of race and education, social welfare and civil rights in post-9/11 America. Her most recent book, The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks, presents a new and corrective image of Parks as a radical activist rather than the more commonly held notion of her as a quiet seamstress. The book received the 2014 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work – Biography/autobiography and the 2013 Letitia Woods Brown Award from the Association of Black Women Historians.
