Kate Liu was born in Singapore in 1994 and began playing the piano when she was four. She moved to the United States when she was eight and in 2010, at the age of sixteen, became the First Prize-Winner at the Fifth New York International Piano Competition, a biennial event presented under the auspices of The Stecher and Horowitz Foundation.

As part of The Stecher and Horowitz Foundation’s Young Artists Series, Liu has performed at many prestigious venues around New York including SubCulture, the Salmagundi Art Club, the Ossining Public Library, the Bohemian Club and Temple Emanu-El.

Liu was also chosen to perform with internationally renowned pianist Lang Lang and participated in his master class. She played Schubert’s Fantasy in F minor, one-piano, four hands with Lang Lang in two concerts at the Symphony Center in Chicago in November, 2008.

Liu has won top prizes in several competitions. On October 20, 2015 she won the third prize (bronze medal) and the Polish Radio Award for the best performance of a mazurka in the 17th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree at the Curtis Institute of Music under Professor Robert McDonald.

In collaboration with the New York International Piano Competition and The Stecher and Horowitz Foundation, the Quick Center for the Arts is pleased to bring gifted young pianists in recital three times each year. Whether a classical music lover, teacher, piano student or a family with youngsters, you will find these concerts offer the perfect opportunity to experience some of the finest young artists in the country!
