The Met: Live in HD opens new season at the Quick Center on Oct. 11 with Verdi's thrilling Shakespearean Tragedy, "Macbeth"

Opera fans can also enjoy "Sound Bites" a free lunchtime series at the Quick Center, debuting at 12 noon, Oct. 10

Image: Macbeth Audiences to the Quick Center for the Arts will once again experience the Metropolitan Opera's thrilling sights, sounds and spectacle on the big screen with The Met: Live in HD. Verdi's Shakespearean Tragedy, "Macbeth," opens the season on Saturday, October 11, 2014. Transmission times are 1 p.m., live, (12:15 pre-performance talk); and 6 p.m. encore. Anna Netrebko stars in her first Met performances of the vocally and dramatically demanding role of Lady Macbeth. Former Royal Shakespeare Company artistic director Adrian Noble 's acclaimed production, led by Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi , features a starry cast including Željko Lučić in the title role, Joseph Calleja as Macduff, and René Pape as Banquo. (Pre-performance talk with Jeffrey Johnson at 12:15 p.m.) Single Tickets: $25, $20 seniors, $10 children/students (including Fairfield University students).

Also for opera fans, the Quick Center will begin a brand new Lunch Series, Sound Bites, that premiers at 12 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, 2014 . Jeffrey Johnson will discuss "Opera's Thrift Store; Coats, Pins, Books and the joy of unexpected objects" from noon to 1:15 p.m. at the Quick Center's Wien Experimental Theatre. Bring your favorite lunch treat; beverages provided. Patrons can have their lunch waiting for them at the Quick Center that day by ordering in advance through Einstein Bros Bagels. The series will feature a number of events throughout the year. Each event will feature a distinctive topic with enriching information and enlivening performances.
