" Frankenstein," by Mary Shelley, was published in 1818, since which time there have been nearly 100 adaptations both on screen and in the theatre. Playwright Nick Dear and director Danny Boyle first discussed collaborating on "Frankenstein" in the 1990s, but it wasn't until 2004 that they revisited the project. They brought their vision to life in the National Theatre's 2011 production. Originally broadcast by National Theatre Live in March 2011, it has become a global phenomenon, resulting in three encore screenings in more than 25 countries and being seen by nearly a quarter of a million people.

In this video highlight, Director Danny Boyle and playwright Nick Dear discuss their unique adaptation in this in-depth discussion with writer Christopher Frayling.
