It’s a Wonderful Life takes the Quick Center stage Dec. 12

The Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts presents “It’s a Wonderful Life: Live from WVL Radio Theatre,” a clever stage adaptation of the classic holiday film, at 8 p.m., Friday, December 12. Tickets are $35, $30 and $25, $5 for Fairfield University students. The Inn at Fairfield Beach is the corporate sponsor and Morris Media is the media sponsor for the performance.

This new version sets the story in a radio station preparing a broadcast of “It’s a Wonderful Life” to keep the station afloat. It’s Christmas Eve 1945, but a blizzard hits and only a handful of WVL Radio's actors have braved the storm and reached the station. Undaunted, they soldier on, playing all the roles – from Bedford Falls everyman George to evil Mr. Potter to hapless Uncle Willy – in alternately hilarious and poignant fashion.

This live 1940s-style “broadcast” whisks the audience away to the Golden Age of Radio, complete with flashing “on air” sign and live sound effects. It’s an evening filled with hope and optimism that’s the perfect antidote to holiday cynicism.
