Quick Center for the Arts presents National Theatre Live's encore presentations in high definition of the National Theatre'smulti-award-winning production of War Horse from the New London Theatre in London, England's West End. Broadcasts take place at 2 p.m. (encore), and 7 p.m. (encore), on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Fairfield University's Quick Center for the Arts . Since its first performance at the National Theatre in 2007, War Horse has become an international smash hit, capturing the imagination of millions around the world. Based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo, War Horse is the powerful story of a young boy called Albert and his beloved horse, Joey, who has been requisitioned to fight for the British in World War I. Caught in enemy crossfire, Joey ends up serving on both sides during the war before landing in 'No Man's Land,' while Albert, not old enough to enlist, embarks on a treacherous mission to find his horse and bring him home. A remarkable tale of courage, loyalty and friendship, War Horse features groundbreaking puppetry work by South Africa's Handspring Puppet Company, which brings breathing and galloping horses to life on stage.

The Sunday Times calls it "The theatre event of the decade." Time Magazine writes: "A landmark theatre event. Thrilling!" The New York Times describes it as "Theatrical magic," and the Daily Telegraph raves: "Genius isn't too strong a word to describe this astonishing production."

War Horse is currently celebrating its seventh year on the London stage. The Broadway production of War Horse , which completed its run at the Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theater last year, was the winner of six Tony Awards including a Special Tony Award for Handspring Puppet Company. A German language production entitled Gefährten opened in October 2013 at the historic Theater des Westens in Berlin, and a North American production continues to tour throughout 2014. Based on a novel by Michael Morpurgo, War Horse is adapted by Nick Stafford and presented in association with Handspring Puppet Company. Directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, it is designed by Rae Smith, lighting is by Paule Constable, and movement and horse choreography is by Toby Sedgwick. The puppetry directors are Basil Jones and Adrian Kohler, with video design by 59 Productions Ltd, song-making by John Tams, music by Adrian Sutton, and sound by Christopher Shutt. War Horse is produced in the West End by the National Theatre and National Angels.

National Theatre Live is an initiative by the National Theatre to broadcast live performances onto cinema screens around the world.Since its first season in June 2009, over 1.8 million people have experienced the work of National Theatre Live in 700 cinemas in 25 countries, with over 300 venues in the UK. Each live broadcast is filmed in front of a live audience in the theatre, with cameras carefully positioned throughout the auditorium, giving cinema audiences the 'best seat in the house' view of each production.
