Fairfield University DiMenna-Nyselius Library awarded more than $2,000 in prize money for its 2014 Library Research Prize contest. Open to all Fairfield University schools and class levels, the annual prizes recognize excellence in research projects that show evidence of extensive use of library services, resources and collections, and significant knowledge in the methods of research and the information-gathering process.

Emma Cannon '14, of Georgetown, Massachusetts, an International Studies and Spanish major, won the undergraduate student category and $1,000 for her Modern Languages capstone paper: "The shared experience of child protagonists in Spanish and Argentine film: the transatlanticism of contemporary cinema depicting the dictatorships of Franco and Videla." The faculty supporter was Associate Professor Jerelyn M. Johnson, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures in the College of Arts & Sciences.

Rachel Beauregard '14, of Litchfield, Conn., a nursing major, was awarded second place and $100 for her paper: "The Need for Increased Formal Pediatric Palliative Care Education Nursing Curriculum." The faculty supporter was Eileen R. O'Shea, D.N.P., associate professor of nursing in the School of Nursing.

Eileen Spenard '14, of Norwalk, Conn., a graduate of the Doctor of Nursing Practice program, won the graduate student category and $1,000 for her paper: "Nurses' Knowledge of Heart Failure Self-Care Management." The faculty supporter was Jaclyn Conelius, Ph.D., assistant professor of nursing.

Maria Sanchez '14, of New York City, and Emma Sheeran '14, of Goldens Bridge, N.Y., were awarded second place and $100 for their paper on education: "The Effects of Personal Music in the Classroom: A Mixed Methods Study." The faculty supporter was Barbara Welles-Nystrom, Ed.M., Ed.D., associate professor of curriculum & instruction, the Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions.
