Image: Velveteen Rabbit To the delight of young audiences, Fairfield University's Quick Center for the Arts brings to life the timeless classic tale of The Velveteen Rabbit at 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, 2013 , performed by Theatre IV, a division of the Virginia Repertory Theatre. Recommended for ages 5-10. Media sponsor is Morris Media. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for children.

Adapted from the classic story by Margery Williams, Theatre IV's presentation of The Velveteen Rabbit is a fanciful musical production that centers around a boy and his love for his favorite toy, a rabbit covered with velveteen and stuffed with sawdust. Although the rabbit is not modern and mechanical, the boy loves the rabbit and takes it everywhere. After the boy recovers from Scarlet Fever, the family must get rid of the contaminated rabbit. As the rabbit awaits his fate, a magical fairy blooms from a flower and turns the beloved plaything into a real, live rabbit showing us the strength and magic of unconditional love.

Theater IV's children's production of this delightful story features a book written by Thomas Hammond, with music and lyrics by Ron Barnett. The power of play and childhood fancy, the pure light of unconditional love - these timeless forces illuminate the faithful rendering of Margery Williams' tale of friendship and the passing of time. A lovely score and detailed period costumes will transport audiences back to the beginning of the last century where they experience a particular innocence and wisdom that have much to say to our present culture of instant gratification and disposable friends.

Theatre IV, a division of the Virginia Repertory Theatre, is a nonprofit, professional touring children's theatre. This performance is part of its national touring production. Since 1975, it has toured from Wisconsin to Florida and from Texas to Maine. Theatre IV performs live before over ½ million children, teens, parents and teachers across the United States every year.
