Fairfield University invites the public to "Introduction to Printmaking: Etching and Drypoint," a new enrichment course offered during the spring semester. Participants will learn the fundamentals of two important printmaking techniques. They will also have opportunities to attend guest lectures and participate in gallery visits to better understand this art form.

This course has been designed to complement "In the Wake of the Butterfly: James McNeill Whistler and His Circle in Venice" and "Reflections and Undercurrents: Ernest Roth and Printmaking in Venice, 1900-1940," two special exhibitions that will be on view at Fairfield University from January 23 until April 4, 2014 in the Bellarmine Museum of Art and the Thomas J. Walsh Art Gallery, respectively. Led by Jo Yarrington, professor of studio art and a professional artist, the course will meet for six Thursday evenings (5-7:30 p.m.) between January 30 and March 13. Optional activities include at least one museum or gallery visit and a public lecture with Dr. Eric Denker (senior lecturer, National Gallery of Art), who will deliver "American Artists in early 20th-century Venice" on February 25, 2014 at 5 p.m. in Bellarmine Hall's Diffley Board Room. Through live demonstrations and lectures, students will expand their knowledge of the historical and technical aspects of printmaking and learn how to make their own etchings and drypoints. There are no tests or grades involved in this enrichment course.

Cost is $395 per person (includes materials but not optional museum/gallery visit). Space is limited to 15 participants.
