What: Garden party celebrating the publication of In the Yellowy Green Phase of Spring: Poems from Newtown , a collection of poems written by 3rd-6th graders from both public and private schools in Newtown, Conn., and their parents during a six-week free workshop held at Newtown's Hawley School this spring. Some students will read from their work.

Details: Print media may inquire about attending the event; contact information below.  Carol Ann Davis, author and faculty member in Fairfield University's MFA in Creative Writing Program, Hawley School fourth-grade teacher Lea Attanasio, Elizabeth Boquet, Ph.D, University dean of academic engagement, and Fairfield University student Charlotte Pecquex '15, an English major, collaborated to give students and their parents a chance to try their hand at poetry for both creative and therapeutic reasons. The Connecticut Writing Project-Fairfield, which is based on the University's campus, the University's Office of Service Learning and Humanities Institute, along with DonorChoose.com, sponsored the initiative.

The organizers hope to take the Newtown model into schools and community centers in Bridgeport in the coming year.
