Resource for journalists writing about food safety: Professor, Food and Drug Law Institute Scholar

Image: Debra Strauss In the wake of thousands of Americans being sickened by contaminated food in the past several years, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration recently proposed stepped up efforts to prevent the contamination of produce and processed foods. This comes two years after the passing of the Food Safety Modernization Act. These efforts have come as food imports into the United States have more than tripled in the past decade.

Dr. Debra M. Strauss, associate professor of business law, has been noted for presenting models for food security and the labeling and monitoring of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in food. A Food and Drug Law Institute Scholar, her articles on the international law and trade, ethical, intellectual property, food safety, sustainability, and legal liability aspects of GMOs, including risks to human health and the environment, have been published in prominent journals such as the Food and Drug Law Journal, Journal of Food Law & Policy, Stanford Journal of International Law, American Business Law Journal, Journal of Legal Studies in Business, and The International Lawyer.

Dr. Strauss's work has been cited by legal authorities and the courts as well as by other academics. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Cornell University and Yale Law School.
