Board appoints Matthew Farley to Lead Campus Compact's Connecticut Office and new collaboration with UConn

Image: Matthew Farley The Board of Directors of Connecticut Campus Compact (CTCC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Farley as executive director. Mr. Farley will become the organization's third full time executive director since CTCC was founded in 1997. Connecticut Campus Compact represents 29 member organizations throughout the state. It is one of 34 state offices across the country in the national Campus Compact network.

He has been deeply involved with CTCC for over 10 years and brings with him deep knowledge of the organization and its members," said Rev. Jeffrey P. von Arx, S.J., President of Fairfield University and CTCC Chair. "CTCC has experienced remarkable growth in the last four years including a significant increase in membership and new opportunities for statewide, regional and national collaboration. Fairfield University has been honored to serve as host to Connecticut Campus Compact for the past five years, supporting its growth into the strong organization that it is today. With the support of UConn and Matthew's enthusiastic leadership, we anticipate continued growth, expanded programming and enhanced member services."

Farley most recently held the position of associate director for community outreach, Department of Student Activities at the University of Connecticut (UConn), Storrs campus. In that post, Farley oversaw the coordination of non-credit bearing community service and service-learning initiatives that engaged over 2,500 students annually. During his ten years at UConn Farley has supported multiple community engagement initiatives including, in his current capacity as chair of the UConn's Public Engagement Forum, a university-wide group of faculty, staff and administrators committed to furthering UConn's public, land-grant mission. During Matt's tenure, UConn was recognized with three awards by the Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service for the breadth and depth of student involvement in community service: Katrina Compassion Award (2006), General Community Service Award "With Distinction" (2011), and President's Award winner (2012). The Presidential Award is the highest honor that a university can receive for its work in service-learning programs, civic engagement, and commitment to volunteerism.

Before coming to UConn, Farley was the Associate Director of the Program in Afterschool Education and Research at Harvard University's Graduate School of Education where he was responsible for Harvard's GEAR UP program; an early college awareness and preparation program for low-income youth funded by the Federal Department of Education. He has a BS in Business Administration from Stonehill College and a Masters in Public Administration from UConn. Farley is a resident of Wallingford, CT.

CTCC is also proud to announce a new partnership with the UConn where as of July 2014 UConn will be the host campus for the CTCC. UConn President Susan Herbst, who serves on the National Campus Compact Board of Directors, recently commented on the relocation of CTCC to UConn's Greater Hartford campus: "UConn is proud to be a leader in engagement and is committed to the ongoing development and enhancement of our activities within the state and region as well as the national and international arenas. We are delighted to serve as the host campus for CTCC, which will showcase our already positive and productive partnership."

CTCC is a coalition of Connecticut college and university presidents committed to promoting the civic mission and purpose of higher education. CTCC member campuses seek to involve students, faculty, and entire campus communities in meaningful service in order to fulfill higher education's most noble goals of educating citizens, preparing tomorrow's leaders and contributing to the life of communities across the globe. CTCC supports the integration of community service into the academic and co-curricular cultures of its member campuses by sponsoring faculty and professional development, facilitating collaborations and networking opportunities, connecting members with capacity-building resources, engaging in advocacy, and raising public awareness. CTCC is currently hosted on the campus of Fairfield University.
