Viral marketing, the cloud and the evolution of browsers are just some of the timely topics to be discussed at an event presented by Fairfield University's School of Engineering and the Inventors Association of Connecticut (IACT), on Tuesday, September 25, at 7 p.m. Admission is free and the meeting is open to the public.

The speaker will be Brock Hotaling, chief executive officer of Westport, Conn.-based Opstreams, LLC, who will deliver a talk entitled, "Web 2.Open Framework Revolution for Entrepreneurs, Inventors and Organizations," in Fairfield University's Dolan School of Business Dining Room.

Hotaling, an expert on software architectures and development processes, will elaborate on why the evolution of browsers, HTML, Cascading Style Sheets and Javascript have often been misunderstood in the context of business and non-business organizations. He will show case histories of how small-footprint organizations have achieved overhead efficiencies and viral marketing outreach on small budgets and minimal time investments, while making effective use of the cloud.

His talk will feature demonstrations of how mobile communications and social media channels compel organizations and individuals of all flavors to embrace new forms of web presence, image, interactivity, and workflows in the 21st century, while avoiding traditional "technology traps" such as the "arcade model" and "magic model," according to Dr. Douglas Lyon, chairman of computer engineering at Fairfield and president of the IACT. This massive game-change away from innovative software development and business models to social eyeballs, data and service control, and content repositories are of vital importance to entrepreneurial marketing, Dr. Lyon added.
