Fans thrilled as Fairfield University men's and women's basketball teams both advance to March 5th Conference Championships

The call went out across the Fairfield University campus late Sunday afternoon to declare a "snow day," or at least "Stag Day," or whatever it takes, so the campus community could venture to Massachusetts and watch their men's and women's basketball teams, both, vie for their championships in the 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, and an NCAA tournament berth.

On Saturday morning, the Fairfield women cinched their spot in the finals with a 63-48 win over Siena.  The women will play at noon against Marist College in the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. The game will be aired on ESPNU.

The men earned their chance for the MAAC championship on Sunday with an 85-75 victory over Iona. The Stags take on Loyola University in the second game at 7 p.m. The contest will be televised on ESPN2.

Buses and vans will carry fans from the Fairfield campus for the games. A pre-game reception will be held from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Student Prince/The Fort Restaurant, 8 Fort Street in Springfield. Tickets are available through http://www.ticketmaster.com as well as at the box office at the MassMutual Center.
