Background:
The global network of Jesuit Colleges and Universities remains the largest network of private higher education in the world. What informed the Jesuit educational mission right from its founding in the 16th century was a unique idea: "cura personalis," or care for the whole person - developing a student's intellect, character, physical wellbeing, and spiritual insight, while at the same time allowing the unique giftedness of each student to emerge. Today's students face a whole new set of challenges. More than ever, they express despair about their futures, are increasingly stressed, and unprepared for the demands of career and living.

Who:
Fairfield University President, Rev. Jeffrey von Arx, S.J. since his inauguration as President several years ago, has committed his tenure at Fairfield to leading a renewal of the Jesuit educational philosophy, re-discovering the time-tested traditions of "cura personalis," and making it relevant to the needs of the 21st century student.

What:
Father von Arx will discuss the life challenges that young people face, how Fairfield University is tackling these issues, and the changes that must occur in higher education to assist them at this critical juncture in their lives.

When and Where:
