Acclaimed memoirist to appear at Fairfield University Bookstore

Image: Karol Nielson Karol Nielson, author of the engrossing memoir Black Elephants , will read from and discuss her work at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, at the Fairfield University Bookstore, 1499 Post Road, Fairfield. The event, part of the University's Inspired Writer Series , a program of the MFA in Creative Writing , is free and open to the public.

In Black Elephants , Nielson covers an assortment of themes from travel and adventure to love, war and dreams. A trekking trip to Peru led to a love affair that took the author to Israel and the horrors of the first Gulf War. Poets & Writers selected the memoir as a New and Noteworthy Book and excerpts were selected as Notable Essays in The Best American Essays .

Nielson, who also writes poetry, teaches memoir writing at New York University.

This event is presented by the Department of English and the MFA in Creative Writing.
