Fairfield University part-time student programs restructured to enhance quality

Image: Canisius Fairfield University has restructured its programs for part-time students over the past two years in ways that enhance the quality of academic offerings, advising and support services. As part of this new decentralized approach, the University officially closed its University College (UC) as a distinct administrative unit on July 1 and programs for part-time students will be more closely aligned with the University's schools with part-time programs, including the College of Arts & Sciences, the School of Nursing, the Charles F. Dolan School of Business, and the School of Engineering.

The University will continue to offer part-time and visiting students a full range of academic courses each semester in the evening, on weekends, and in online formats, particularly over the summer and winter breaks, as well as access to Fairfield's daytime classes. Part-time students will continue to be eligible for degree programs and an array of courses and certificate programs for personal enrichment and professional development.

"Our recent restructuring will ensure that our part-time students have a comparable academic experience to our full-time students, with full access to academicadvising from faculty in their program, as well as other academic support services that will enhance their learning," said the Rev. Paul Fitzgerald, S.J., senior vice president for academic affairs.

Fairfield's faculty approved the change and all current students were informed this spring.

Admission and registration will be streamlined through the Aloysius P. Kelley S.J. Center, which also handles full-time students. The Fall 2012 semester starts on Tuesday, September 4.
