Live Radio Dramas: "War of the Worlds"
Hear the original 1938 broadcast that caused a national panic and catapulted Orson Welles to stardom. The classic H.G. Wells tale of a Martian invasion was creatively adapted as a series of news bulletins interrupting a normal radio broadcast evening, and was actually believed by hundreds of the listening public. Just one twist... Instead of the Martians landing in New Jersey, they land in Connecticut and lay waste your favorite local sites. After more than a decade of honing their skills at the Quick Center, our crack radio troupe offers you a brand new collection of original Golden-Age radio dramas. Overblown vintage commercials and occasional great writing make for a surprisingly vibrant evening.

José Porcel, Artistic Director
Flamenco is an explosion of rhythms, colors, and emotions that contains all of the vitality, sunniness, and passion of the Spanish people. The Compañia Flamenca José Porcel, founded in Madrid, Spain, is among the premier dance troupes that exhibits this exciting art form. The company is back in the United States touring its thrilling new program, "Gypsy Fire."

The Young Artists Series
Fairfield University, in association with The Stecher and Horowitz Foundation presents "The Young Artists Series," featuring Leann Nicole Osterkamp . Born in 1991, Ms. Osterkamp hails from Boulder, Colorado, and has performed as a solo and chamber artist across the United States and in Italy; including the Prosels Castle in Vols am Schlern, Italy, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and the Baryshnikov Center in New York City. In 2008 she was awarded a major prize in the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition, and participated in the Fourth New York International Piano Competition.

Barry Scheck: "Capital Crimes Challenged by DNA Evidence"
Annual Jacoby-Lunin Humanitarian Lectureship
Although he received national media attention while serving on O.J. Simpson's defense team, Scheck's more influential legal work lies in his dedication to exposing wrongful convictions as director of the Innocence Project. He is a professor at Cardozo School of Law in New York City. Moffly Media is exclusive media partner for Fall Open VISIONS programming

The Miles Davis Experience: 1949-1959
A Collaboration with Blue Note Records
Recapture the period, sound, historical and cultural context of this critical period of American history through the lens of jazz music and its most iconic innovator, Miles Davis. This show outlines the challenges and optimism of the Civil Rights struggle against the backdrop of the creative cauldron of music that Miles pioneered. Featuring trumpeter Jason Palmer.

National Acrobats of the People's Republic of China
Direct from Beijing, The National Acrobats of The People's Republic of China was the first National Performing Arts Troupe established by the government of the People's Republic of China in 1950. Richard Wagner's "Siegfried"
In part three of the Ring, Wagner's cosmic vision focuses on his hero's early conquests, while Robert Lepage's revolutionary stage machine transforms itself from bewitched forest to mountaintop love nest. Gary Lehman sings the title role and Deborah Voigt's Brünnhilde is his prize. Bryn Terfel is the Wanderer. This is an encore presentation of a new Met Opera production originally performed live on Nov. 5, 2011.

The Infernal Comedy: Confessions of a Serial Killer
A drama for one actor, two opera singers and an orchestra
Starring Emmy Award winner John Malkovich
John Malkovich stars in a stageplay based on the real-life story of the notorious convicted serial killer Jack Unterweger. At times darkly comic, at other times bleak and brutal, The Infernal Comedy is an intriguing and innovative approach to delving into the twisted mind of, as Malkovich puts it, "a bad, bad guy." Watching John Malkovich perform, we immediately connect to the ideal for which dramatic art is made: the presence of the moment. Mr. Malkovich has acted in approximately seventy films. He received Academy Award nominations for Places in the Heart and In the Line of Fire and appeared in such successful movies as Empire of the Sun, The Killing Fields and Dangerous Liaisons .

Matthew Bogdanos
Author of "Thieves of Baghdad"
In the wake of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, thieves took advantage of the chaos to loot the priceless treasures housed in the Iraq Museum. Marine Colonel Matthew Bogdanos led the U.S. task force to investigate the pillaging. He will share his story and reflect on that investigation and on what has changed in the realm of art theft and looting in war zones in the intervening five years. The event has been made possible by the trial law firm of Stratton Faxon, Fairfield University's Bellarmine Museum of Art, as well as the institution's Departments of Art History, Classics, English and International Studies. General admission $15 per ticket, $5 for Fairfield University students. Each ticket holder will be presented with a free copy of Thieves of Baghdad at the door.

Theatre Fairfield: On the Spot Improv
Performances take place at Fairfield University's PepsiCo Theatre
ON THE SPOT , Fairfield University's premiere long-form improv troupe, has been bringing comedy to campus, Fairfield County, and New York City since 1990. Taking a suggestion to start each act, ON THE SPOT is a two-act performance where anything can happen. The company is a multiple-award winner at the annual Improv Boston Beanpot College Comedy Competition and regularly gives workshops for local high school students. The newly cast ON THE SPOT company features Alicia Bisannette, Mike Elwell, Casey Grambo, Michael Maio, Andrew Nealis, Pam Perrimon, Tom Saporito, and Gabi Tozzi and is directed by New York City-based Yvonne Conybeare.

"Collaborators" by John Hodge
From the screenwriter of Trainspotting, Shallow Grave, and The Beach comes a new play, directed by National Theatre Director Nicholas Hytner. The play centers on an imaginary encounter between Joseph Stalin and the playwright Mikhail Bulgakov. Alex Jennings ( The Habit of Art ) will play Bulgakov and Simon Russell Beale ( London Assurance ) will play Stalin. National Theatre Live is an initiative to broadcast the best of British theatre onto cinema screens around the world.

The Fairfield University Glee Club
"Canticle of the Animals: A Christmas Concert"
The Fairfield University Glee Club and the Fairfield University Chamber Singers with Carole Ann Maxwell, D.S.M., Conductor, with the Festival Brass and Jazz Ensemble present a dynamic holiday program that includes "Canticle of Creatures" written by St. Francis of Assisi, "Missa Gaia" by Paul Winter, and "Peaceable Kingdom" by Patti Smith. The Glee Club numbers over 120 undergraduate and graduate singers. Its members share a deep love for music and a common desire to achieve excellence in it. Their voices explore a wide variety of repertoire, experiencing diverse styles of music and enriching audiences with programming that challenges and inspires.

Ahn Trio
The Ahn sisters - Lucia on the piano, Angella on the violin, and Maria on the cello - have earned a distinguished reputation for embracing 21st century classical music with their unique style and innovative collaborations. The Ahn sisters were born in Seoul, Korea, and educated at the Juilliard School in New York City. Reflecting the two cultures they grew up in, the Trio brings a new energy and excitement to the chamber music world. In over ten years of touring, the Trio has performed in all 50 states and in over 30 countries, and has recorded six albums. The trio's latest CD, "Lullaby for My Favorite Insomniac" on Sony, a showcase of their creativity, reached No. 8 on the Billboard Charts for 26 weeks in the Classical album category.

Special Guest: Jamie Baum, flute
Performance takes place at Fairfield University's Gonzaga Auditorium
Fairfield University's Jazz Ensemble, directed by Brian Q. Torff, with student leader Brian Haswell will be joined by Jamie Baum on flute. Jamie Baum's inventive, finely crafted compositions and commanding and atypical approach to the flute as a lead instrument has impressed audiences, musicians and critics alike. Originally from Fairfield, CT, she has been living in New York for seventeen years working as a leader or sidewomen with a wide range of consummate musicians in a wide range of styles.

A holiday pops tradition returns to Fairfield. Music Director Jerry Steichen is no Scrooge when it comes to the holidays, bringing Victorian charm to this year's festivities. Travel back to a simpler time with NHSO Pops! favorites, the Elm City Girls' Choir, and our annual audience sing-a-long.

George Frideric Handel's "Rodelinda"
Sensational in the 2004 Met premiere of Stephen Wadsworth's much-heralded production, Renée Fleming reprises the title role. She's joined by Stephanie Blythe and countertenor Andreas Scholl, and Baroque specialist Harry Bicket conducts in encore broadcasts originally performed live on Dec. 3, 2011.

Performance takes place at Fairfield University's Gonzaga Auditorium
The Fairfield University Orchestra is made up of Fairfield University students, alumnae, and members of the community. The seasonal program includes the Santa Claus Symphony, by William Henry Fry, which narrates the story of Santa Claus and his sleigh as he goes around the world delivering gifts to children. The Fairfield Orchestra is the first orchestra ever to perform the work with narration. Conducting is Jamie Ratcliffe. Special guest narrator is Fairfield University President Jeffrey P. von Arx, S.J.

"Away in a Basement" finds the Church Basement Ladies in 1959, helping the kids get ready for their Sunday School Christmas program. Little do they know what's in store for them, as they discuss the politics of the pageant and mend old bathrobe costumes.

Charles Gounod's Faust
With Jonas Kaufmann in the title role, René Pape as the devil, and Marina Poplavskaya as Marguerite, Gounod's classic retelling of the Faust legend couldn't be better served. Tony Award-winning director Des McAnuff updates the story to the first half of the 20th century with a production that won praise in London last season. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts on the heels of his Don Carlo success.

Pacifica Quartet
Recognized for its virtuosity, exuberant performance style, and often-­daring repertory choices, the Grammy Award-­winning Pacifica Quartet has gained international stature as one of the finest chamber ensembles performing today. Named Musical America's 2009 Ensemble of the Year, the Quartet has received many honors, including being appointed quartet-in-residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The members of the Pacifica Quartet were appointed to the faculty of the University of Illinois in 2003 and serve as quartet-in-residence. They are also resident performing artists at the University of Chicago.

Born in 1989, Miss Sun began studying the piano at the age of two in her native China. Her first teacher was her mother, concert pianist Qi Melody He. At age three, Hannah played in the televised "Guangzhou Children's Piano Recital." The following year, Hannah won First Prize in the Hong Kong, Macau and Guangzhou Piano Competitions. Hannah was named First Prize Winner in the Second New York Piano Competition in June 2004, presented under the auspices of The Stecher and Horowitz Foundation.

The Enchanted Island
