Fairfield University's Computer Engineering Program and the Inventors' Association of Connecticut (IACT) will present an event exploring how and where to access start-up funding, on Thursday, October 27 at 7 p.m.

The guest speaker will be Andy Maloney, vice president of PIMCO, which manages assets for more than 50 of the Fortune 100, and is widely considered the authority on bonds and risk management.

Admission is free, and the public is welcome to attend. The events of the 29-year-old non-profit IACT are an avenue for bringing together not only tinkerers and inventors, but people working in marketing, venture capitalists, intellectual property attorneys, and entrepreneurs, among others.

"Maloney, a veteran consultant to financial advisors, will lead a panel discussion offering an economic and financial perspective with respect to the environment, challenges and opportunities for investors and investing," said Dr. Doug Lyon, professor of computer engineering at Fairfield, who is also IACT's president.

Maloney, of Fairfield County, Conn., has spent the last 14 years as a consultant to financial advisors in the New York metropolitan area. As a consultant for PIMCO, he articulates research ideas and macro economic themes to their clients and assists financial advisors with portfolio construction. Founded in 1971 by Bill Gross, PIMCO has been named by Morningstar as Fixed Income Manager of the Decade. It is headquartered in Newport Beach, Calif., and employs roughly 1,800 people worldwide including 517 investment professionals.
