Stecher and Horowitz Foundation and Fairfield University present the Young Artists Series' pianist Larry Weng February 6 | Press Releases

Image: L Weng Fairfield University in association with The Stecher and Horowitz Foundation (S&H) presents Prize-Winner of the 2006 New York International Piano Competition®, Larry Weng on Sunday, Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. at Fairfield University's Quick Center for the Arts in the Wien Experimental Theatre. Admission is free to this Arts & Minds presentation.

Weng's program includes Robert Schumann's "Novellette Op. 21", Beethoven's "Sonata in E Major, Op. 109," Debussy's "L'isle joyeuse," and Schumann's "Fantasy in C Major, Op. 17.

Weng was a major prizewinner at the 2006 Piano Competition and was awarded first prize in the ensemble category and second prize in the solo category.

He began his piano studies at the age of seven with Dorothy Shi. At the age of eleven, he enrolled in the New England Conservatory Preparatory School capturing early recognition, winning all three categories of the concerto competition at the school. Weng is a laureate of numerous competitions, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Concerto Competition and the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition for Young Musicians. In 2005, he was admitted to the joint degree program between Columbia University and The Juilliard School.

In the past few years, Weng has continued to garner recognition in the music world, with top prizes from the New York Piano Competition and the Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin competition. He has played in master classes for Menahem Pressler, Claude Frank, Paul Badura-Skoda and Arie Vardi, and has appeared in notable venues, including Symphony Hall, Merkin Hall, Weill Recital Hall, and the Salle de Cortot. Weng has completed his Bachelor's degree in Economics at Columbia University, and his Masters degree at the Juilliard School under the tutelage of Jerome Lowenthal and Matti Raekallio.

During the past summer, Weng was a participant at the Steans Festival at Ravinia. He is currently pursuing his Artist Diploma at the Yale School of Music with Professor Boris Berman.
