Although it is still far from clear how the uprising in Egypt is going to play out, the global change of events has sparked a major debate about humanitarian and political problems sweeping the Middle East and Arab nations.

As part of Fairfield University's "Global Citizenship" initiative, the College of Arts and Sciences will host a panel discussion about the current and future issues facing the Middle East and Arab world. The event is co-sponsored by the International Studies program , the Peace and Justice program , Students for Social Justice, and the Muslim Students Association.

Titled "Political Turmoil in the Middle East: The End of Authoritarian Regimes in the Arab World," the informative talk will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 5 p.m. in the lower level of the Barone Campus Center. The university-wide event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.

As a wave of hope rises across the Arab region, Fairfield University's panel of experts will offer their perspective on last week's developments in the Middle East. Faculty members who will lead the discussion are Marcie Patton, professor of politics; Eunsook Jung, assistant professor of politics; Martin Nguyen, assistant professor of religious studies; Ali Yaycioglu, assistant professor of history, and Gisela Gil-Egui, assistant professor of communication.
