Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts announces its 2011-2012 season of The Met: Live in HD , a series of high definition opera transmissions of The Metropolitan Opera's new season direct from Lincoln Center's Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. One of the Quick Center's most popular series - performances regularly sell out - The Met: Live in HD season for 2011-2012 begins in October and features eleven Met Opera productions from its 127th season, combining live broadcasts with a series of encore rebroadcasts. This year's program is particularly impressive as it includes a world premiere, a Metropolitan Opera premiere, five new productions of repertory favorites, and four exciting revivals, both classical and modern, guaranteed to please opera devotees as well as the novice audience. With strategically placed cameras in front of, around and behind The Metropolitan Opera House stage, The Met: Live in HD transmissions give Quick Center audiences a state-of-the art opera experience combining better-than-front-row-seat visibility with back stage access, plus exclusive interviews at intermission. Ticket holders are invited to attend a pre-performance discussion in the Quick Center's Wien Experimental Theatre, which starts 45 minutes before each Live broadcast.

The 2011-2012 season begins with "Anna Bolena" by Gaetano Donizetti on Saturday, October 15, 2011. Live performance is at 12:55 p.m., with an encore at 6:30 p.m. Anna Netrebko opens the Met season in a new Met Opera production with her portrayal of the ill-fated queen driven insane by her unfaithful king. She sings one of opera's greatest mad scenes in this Met premiere production by David McVicar. Ekaterina Gubanova is her rival, Jane Seymour, Ildar Abdrazakov sings Henry VIII, and Marco Armiliato conducts. $25 regular, $20 senior, and $15 children and students.

A new Met Opera production of "Don Giovanni" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart follows next on Saturday, October 29, 2011. Live at 12:55 p.m. Encore performance at 6 p.m. Mariusz Kwiecien brings his youthful and sensual interpretation of Mozart's timeless anti-hero to the Met for the first time, under the direction of Tony Award®-winning director Michael Grandage and with James Levine conducting. Also starring Marina Rebeka, Barbara Frittoli, Ramón Vargas, and Luca Pisaroni. Tickets: $25 regular, $20 senior, and $15 children and students.

Richard Wagner's "Siegfried" receives an encore performance on Sunday, November 13, 2011, at 1 p.m. In part three of the "Ring," Wagner's cosmic vision focuses on his hero's early conquests, while Robert Lepage's revolutionary stage machine transforms itself from bewitched forest to mountaintop love nest. Gary Lehman sings the title role and Deborah Voigt's Brünnhilde is his prize. Bryn Terfel is the Wanderer. James Levine conducts this new Met Opera production (originally performed live on Nov. 5, 2011). Tickets are $25 regular, $20 senior, and $15 children and students.

Philip Glass' "Satyagraha" returns to the Met Opera stage on Saturday, November 19, 2011. Live performance at 12:55 p.m. Encore performance at 6:30 p.m. The Met's visually extravagant production is back for an encore engagement. Richard Croft once again is Gandhi in Philip Glass's unforgettable opera. Tickets are $25 regular, $20 senior, and $15 children and students.

"Rodelinda," by George Frideric Handel, has encore performances on Friday, December 9, 2011, at 12 noon and 6 p.m. Sensational in the 2004 Met premiere of Stephen Wadsworth's much-heralded production, Renée Fleming reprises the title role. She's joined by Stephanie Blythe and countertenor Andreas Scholl. Baroque specialist Harry Bicket conducts (performed live on Dec. 3, 2011). Tickets are $25 regular, $20 senior, and $15 children and students.

A new Met Opera production of "Faust" by Charles Gounod has encore performances on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at 12 noon and at 6 p.m. With Jonas Kaufmann in the title role, René Pape as the devil, and Marina Poplavskaya as Marguerite, Gounod's classic retelling of the Faust legend couldn't be better served. Tony Award-winning director Des McAnuff updates the story to the first half of the 20th century with a production that won praise in London last season. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts on the heels of his Don Carlo success in this production (originally performed live on Dec. 10, 2011). Tickets: $25 regular, $20 senior, and $15 children and students.

The Met: Live in HD productions in 2012 include the highly anticipated world premiere of "The Enchanted Island" by Handel, Vivaldi, Rameau and others on Saturday, January 21, 2012, live at 12:55 p.m., encore at 6 p.m. Other HD broadcasts include "Götterdämmerung" by Richard Wagner on Saturday, February 11, 2012, live at 12 noon; "Ernani" by Giuseppe Verdi on Saturday, February 25, 2012, live at 12:55 p.m. encore at 6 p.m.; and a new production of Jules Massenet's "Manon" on Saturday, April 7, 2012, live at 12 noon, encore at 6 p.m. The season closes with "La Traviata," by Giuseppe Verdi on Saturday, April 14, 2012, live at 12:55 p.m., encore at 6 p.m.

The Met: Live in HD began broadcasts in December 2006 and today reaches millions of opera lovers at over 1,600 theaters in 51 countries. The Quick Center began broadcasting The Met: Live in HD in March 2008.
